As you all likely know by now, Seattle is hosting the West Coast Latvian Song + Dance Festival in July 2027. I am organizing our community kids’ participation in the dance portion! Some of you may have danced with Trejdeksnītis or Zvārgulīši the last time Seattle hosted in 1992. I danced with my (now) husband when we were only 5 and 6, and now my daughter will get a chance to dance in the group as well. I am reviving the bērnu deju grupa, Zvārgulīši, to join with our dancers from the Seattle Latvian School / Skoliņa!
Here are the basics regarding the addition of Zvārgulīši:
- ALL kids (roughly ages 5-14) are welcome to participate!
- No language or dance experience required.
- Zvārgulīši will have rehearsal the first Sunday of each month 1:30pm – 2:30pm at the Seattle Latvian Community Center. This may be adjusted as we move forward it as conflicts arise.
>>> If you are interested, please complete this survey ASAP <<<
FIRST rehearsal will be Sunday, September 27 from 1:30pm-2:30pm
We will still have rehearsal Sunday, October 4th (first Sunday of the month).
Tautas dejas will still be taught every Sunday at Skoliņa (SLS), so there are many options for participation in the kids group performances throughout the year depending on your schedules. Here are a few options:
- If your child(ren) comes to Skoliņa only for tautas dejas (and sometimes some dziedāšana and valoda) they are welcome to learn and perform with us.
- If your child(ren) can only come once a month to Zvārgulīši, they are welcome to learn and perform with us.
- If your child(ren) only do tautas dejas at Skoliņa, but cannot attend the monthly Zvārgulīši rehearsal, they are welcome to learn and perform with us.
Please, plan to participate in the following performances/events:
- Baltic Youth Ambassadors – October 17
- Christmas Market / Tirdziņš – November
- Latvian Independence Day – November
- Trejdeksnītis Spring Concert – May 2027
- Seattle Song Festival – July 2027
The bottom line is we want to invite as many children in our community as possible to take part in the incredible opportunity and experience of a Dziesmu Svētki here at home. Maybe this will only be a one year commitment to see what it’s like or perhaps it could be the opportunity you’ve been looking for to participate more in the community. Whatever it looks like for you and your family, you are welcome and we are happy to have you. Please reach out to me with any questions, and be on the lookout for more emails with some scheduling details and interest polls in the near future!
Ar deju sirdī,
Breezy Raisters
P.S. Please forward this to any other friends/family who might be interested and not on this email list! Paldies.
P.P.S. The flyer contains more information and includes the official photo of Zvārgulīši submitted for the 1992 Seattle Song Festival and an image of us dancing!
